Declaring Jesus as King

Devotional for 3/29/2020

Good morning Church!

I am reminded in these unusual times that we, the redeemed children of God, are the church, not the building. So, thank you for making the effort to meet in groups, so that our congregation can still worship the Lord in unity of spirit.

This is the fifth Sunday of the month, and we have decided to make fifth Sundays a time for testimonies. Because Testimonies are extremely important! They are how we show each other and the world around us that the God of the bible is alive and moving today, in 2020!

And this is especially crucial in this time of unrest and uncertainty.

The same God who healed the sick, made the lame walk, forgave sins, and made the dead rise again is alive and moving today! And we see it, in our families, at work, and just in everyday life.

This morning, I want to give you the opportunity to testify of what you’ve seen and heard Jesus doing around you.

Scripture talks about the saints, meaning any who have submitted to Jesus as King of kings, and how they overcome the power of Satan by the blood of the lamb, Jesus, and the word of their testimony. In other words, the darkness around us is overcome by Jesus blood. It is defeated. It has no power. All of the scary things we see, suicides, terrorism, decaying of morals, pandemics, fear, all of this was overcome by Jesus blood. Jesus is being patient to come and set all things right until every ear has had a chance to hear the gospel, the truth that the blood of the lamb has overcome.

And that is where the testimony comes in.

We share the love of Jesus that we have experienced. We share how we see Jesus making a difference in the lives of those who feel abandoned, the poor, the hopeless. We testify of what we see and hear Jesus doing.

John puts it this way in First John 1:1-4:

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that [a]your joy may be full.”

Here, John, one of the apostles, is writing that they testify of everything they have seen Jesus do, and heard Him say. They saw Jesus in the flesh, and got to walk with Him every day for about 3 years, and they couldn’t help but testify to what they had seen and heard! Jesus isn’t here in the flesh today, but He is alive, and the Holy Spirit is alive and active, and living in us today! We can testify to the difference He has made in our lives, in our family’s lives, and in our friends’ lives!

So this is your opportunity to testify to each other what you have seen and heard Jesus do so that our joy may be full. And further, this time of unrest is a perfect time to share the love and joy of Jesus with those we come in contact with throughout the week, testifying to what He has done.

After this video, take turns sharing ways you have seen Jesus moving in 2020. It can be anything from God giving you wisdom when you asked for it, to seeing someone healed from a sickness after prayer, or just how God gave you peace when you needed it.

And remember, the most important part of a testimony is that it revolves around Jesus.

Acts 4:13:

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.”

This is the greatest testimony that could be said about us, “that they had been with Jesus.” This week, I encourage you, The Lord is alive and active and on the move! Spend time with Jesus. Some of us have more time than usual to devote to this. Take full advantage of that!

Seek Him in the bible, get to know what He did, what He said, what He cares about.

You’ll learn He cares about you too, so share your day with Him. And the world that is in a panic will see that there is something different about you, and that difference is that you have been with Jesus.

Discussion Questions:

  • What are some ways you have seen Jesus working in your life over the past few weeks?
  • How could trusting Jesus as King change the way we respond to the Coronavirus and social distancing?
  • What is one way you can make a positive impact in Jesus name in this time of social distancing that you normally would not be able to?
