Our call to worship today highlighted who we are in Christ. What specific aspect of your position in Christ are you most thankful for? Is it that you have been “made to see” since you were once one who “lived in darkness”? Is it your position as a son or a daughter of God? Is it your eternal destination that you are most thankful for or is it something else?
In the message it was mentioned “parenting is not easy but it has it’s perks!” Perhaps you have never thought of parenting having perks. Why? Is it because we allow the “challenges” of parenting to over-rule the joys? Take a couple of minutes and think about what joys are found in parenting. Make a list.
Parents may be tempted to lose patience with a child especially if the parent does not understand where the child is coming from. Discuss what the differences are between children “having a hard time” versus “giving us a hard time”.
Our text for the morning clearly suggests that parenting does not lie totally upon the responsibility of the parents. Clearly God was involved. “Not all of hell could have accomplished the killing of Moses … because God’s hand was in it!” Review the following short references. What does each of them have to say about the sovereignty (control) of God?
Ephesians 1:11
Romans 8:28
Matthew 10:29-31
Colossians 1:16-17
Isaiah 45:7-9
Proverbs 16:33
Job 42:2
Lamentations 3:37-39
Acts 4:27-28
Mother is one of a kind. Irreplaceable. She was made to display the tenderness of God. She is to be highly esteemed. “Mother puts the perk in parenting!” So… whether your mother is still present with you or has gone on into the eternal state pause right now, would you, and give glory to God by thanking Him for your mother. Praise the Lord by mentioning specific characteristics of your mother that God put in her for your benefit.
